Mini Book / Color Throwdown

Hi there Bloglanders

I've been busy in the office as it's the end of our financial year, my husband is making wine up the West coast and I have to do his part for house, family and business as well.  That didn't stop me to get some crafting fun done!

As it is summer in Sunny SA I couldn't help to take up the Color Throwdown challenge of the week - such nice and summery colors.  This is their mood board:

And this is what I made:

I just love covered notebooks - for myself as well as for pressies.  For this one I've used one with an index.  On my desk is at least 3 of them - I write everything down form what is stored in my garage to the numbers of my printer cartridges.  I don't think I'm organized BUT if I need something, at least I know where to look!

These books are cheap and when they are covered, they look very luxurious. Here you can see the inside:

I have used the Clear Cuts from Little Yellow Bicycle (hello Spring) as decorations.  I bought it as I want to make a mini album called SPRING.  In English spring is a season but in Afrikaans SPRING actually means "jump".  I plan to have every one of my family members (me included) jumping for a picture and that will go into my "Spring mini".  It does take time to get everyone to jump around here and therefore I couldn't resist diving into the stash for this project.

My pressie stash of books, tags and cards are growing by the week. By the time I get to Xmas there will be no rushing around for last minute purchases for me!

Valentine's Day

Hi there Bloglanders

I'm limiting my Bloglanding as I've got a lot on my plate.  The wedding dress is being finished off, I'm working on the dresses for the flower girls and I still have the one for the maid of  honor to do.  This week, I'll get it done even if I have to sleep in front of my sewing machine. The office is busy and I'm sending a surprise  goodie bag to Wernich tomorrow. A lot to do!

As Valentine's day is around the corner I have made some mini mini cards for friends, neighbours and the children I know.  I will add a little chocolate on Wednesday and deliver them to the various mail boxes. This is what they look like:

The man and woman stamp is from Amy Tangerine and the rest from Hero Arts. (mix and match elements) I just love all the stamps in this set.  All the paper was offcuts that I had in my stash. Tomorrow I'll share some more of my Valentine's day goodies.  I really try to keep it simple as it is the thought that counts and not the amount of money you spend.

I hope you are having a sunny yellow Monday!  My house is still very quiet but I'm keeping busy.

My friend Anel puts pictures of her best friends and family in her Bible.  She doesn't scrap but I'm sure her page will win a few accolades for the biggest amount of pictures in the smallest space.  So, when she saw my family photo on the blog, she wanted one ASAP and as her husband is having an operation in Stellenbosch this week, I thought I'd visit and cheer her up. This is what the card looks like:

I used this color combo from The Color Throwdown as inspiration:

And a peek inside the "envelope":

I used a 12 x 8 piece of cardstock, sewed a medium glassine bag to the middle of the "inside" of my card and folded the fronts over to form an "envelope".(The seam is just above the zig zags)  I decorated the front of my envelope with die cut flowers from Hero Arts as well as the inside. My sentiment is from October Afternoon (sidewalks) and the twine from The Twinery. I just slipped the photo into the Glassine bag.

Art Journaling Tags

It's Monday and time to share my contribution to The Color Throwdown.  This is the inspiration:

I love the color scheme especially the Wisteria Wonder - I always say that my mother-of-the-groom outfit will be in that exact color once the boys get married.  Oh, I hope it is soon - I would love to have grandchildren! Sometimes I can't believe that I only have one child as I'm actually great with children but then I remind myself that if it worked out that I had more, we wouldn't  been able to add Wernich to our family and fund his education.  Just shows that everything works out just as it should.

Anyway, I have a pattern for the mother-of-the-groom outfit - will keep pestering the boys and look out for fabric in the meantime. 

I decided to do some more art journaling for the challenge but it turned into a total mess.  And so I got to the point where I converted my work of art into tags.  Even the stamping went all wrong but in the end I added more than 15 tags to my tag stash and when I stamped "thank you so much" more than 50 times, my day felt a lot more grateful.

Here they are:

For the background I used some watercolour paints in two shades of purple and 2 shades of green.  The zig-zag stamping was done in weather vane and the star-burst (???) and sentiment in fountain pen.  The twine is from The Twinery and both the stamp pads are from Jenny Bowlin. I've used MME stamps.

And here I've used some tags on a 6x4 journaling card for my "MY LIFE, MY WAY" album.

I'm just glad that I was able to turn the art journaling gone wrong into something useful.  Tomorrow I'll show my first "MY LIFE MY WAY" page. I did it in the same color scheme with paper that has been in my stash for the past 7 years!!! My 2013 philosophy - Live Light.

Christmas prep 2012 - Neighbor gifts

Good morning Bloglanders

My jam is nearly done but I did make some time to do some crafting towards my Xmas 2012 prep.  Usually I give little pressies to all my neighbors.  In short I give lots of little Xmas pressies - but different ones for different people.  I'll be sharing the others later but today we will cover the neighbors.  I try to think of something universal, small and useful.  This year I decided upon a vanilla pod - YES!!! One Vanilla pod!

This is what the finished product looks like:

I bought them already packed individually into small glass tubes.  The rest was easy peasy.  I did a double landscape 4x6 Photoshop layout for both sides, printed it onto white cardstock, punched a hole for the tube to peek out and tied it with some twine from The Twinery.  I've taken some more pic's if you want the inside info:

Still think one vanilla pod is a bit skimpy?  I even added a tried and tested recipe for Creme Anglaise to the inside of the card.  Remember my DIY washi tape that I shared here. I used it to stick the glass tube to the inside of my card. I couldn't get any green washi tape to match the stickers on the tubes so I made my own from tissue paper.

Now for something that made me smile.  I did the whole thing and then checked the Color Throwdown's weekly color combo:

What can I say - Creative minds think alike! Don't you just love the color Limeade.  To me it sounds like lime with some extra zing.

Color Throwdown

I hope you are having a fabulous Friday.  I had a hectic week and can't wait to kick up my heels and relax!  BUT, before I go - I'm here to share my project for this week's Color Throwdown:

I made a notebook as well and it looks really great but the picture I took, is terrible.  Sorry about that and when I get around to it, I'll re do it - in the meantime, here is a peek:



I plan to give sets with a notebook, some tags, envelopes and a few cards all boxed up and wrapped in pretty paper for Christmas gifts to friends and family.  Sounds good to me!

Cards for Color Throwdown #213

Good morning Bloglanders

I hope you all had a marvellous weekend and that this week will only bring you joy, sunshine and smiles. Today I'm sharing two cards that I made for the Color Throwdown challenge of the week. Here they are:

I'm sure all of you know how I feel about stamping but then I read a post by Karen Grunberg where she said "Be who you are and keep it IMPERFECT".  This was the kick in the butt that I needed and boy did I enjoy my stamping!!  I'll be showing some more attempts during the week. I stamped in pink, green and pumpkin on watercolor paper and then brushed over the whole thing with water.  This gave it a weathered look. Once dry, I stamped the sentiment and some more elements in black. On the bottom one I did some sewing to finish it off but I totally forgot to do it on the first one. IMPERFECT ME!

The stamps are from MME and I've used my Jenny Bowlin ink pads.

Even my diary got some Pumpkin Pie:

I've got some vines growing on my "stoep" and their  flowers are everywhere.  Just look - it's like tiny, green snowflakes! I just love them.
